Currently In Europe
I am currently in Europe for the Ars Electronica Festival, the Venice Art Biennale and Film Festival. Linz is also this year’s European Cultural Capital, and of the installations for this event that I’ve seen, my favorite by far is the Akustikon, which has two amazing pieces that involve “card catalogs” full of sounds. Ars Electronica has some terrific works, as well, including Paul DeMarinis’ amazing piece that plays music on an umbrella by pounding it with pulse-modulated water droplets (actually part of the OK museum’s Linz 2009 installation, but very relevant to Ars Electronica), a cool piece that translates written stories into graphic stories using patent drawings from the US patent database, a piece that plays the extremely low frequency sounds generated by solar radiation, and the very cool turntable pieces by Yuri Suzuki. The “See This Sound” show at the Lentos Kunstmuseum also had some quite good work in it. (I’ll blog more about this trip when I return, as my Internet access and time is limited while in Europe. The art stuff will likely get blogged about on my personal blog.)
I will continue the Film Pipeline Overview series when I return from Europe, around 09−15−09.

Friends of mine crashed the Biennial in Art Boats made of Junk. Maybe you got to see them?
